The RSB Chapter of CLSA will be coordinating a Hike up to the San Bernardino Initial Point on Saturday June 22, 2024 (Conditions Permitting).
This is a fun though challenging day hike that ventures into the San Gorgonio Wilderness via the
San Bernardino Peak Trail. If you are reasonably fit, you can do this hike!
- The hike begins at the San Bernardino Peak Trailhead in Angelus Oaks. An Adventure Day Pass is
required for parking at the trailhead. Suggest carpooling where possible. - RSVP is required at least three days prior to the hike as permits are required to enter the
San Gorgonio Wilderness (contact info at left). Please RSVP as soon as you can. - You should have a well broken in, sturdy pair of hiking boots or trail running shoes, as the
trail is rocky in places. - Get out and get your body warmed up with smaller hikes in the weeks leading up.
- Be sure to pack a minimum of 3 liters of water (more is better), snacks, and a lunch.
- The hike to the monument is 15.5 miles round trip, and gains 4300 vertical feet; trailhead is at
approx. 6000 feet, and the monument is at 10,300 feet. Thin air up top :-). - Several chapter members may be doing this as an overnight backpack trip, staying at Limber Pine Bench, which is about a mile or so below the monument.
Please RSVP ASAP, or send any questions, to Tom Herrin, tpherrin@gmail.com.
We will be meeting at 6AM, and leaving the trailhead by 6:30. Day hike participants should be back
to the trailhead around 5 or 6pm.
